Compensation Timelines

There are four important steps that should be taken if you were injured on the job.

  1. Get first aid right away. If additional medical attention is needed, go to a doctor or hospital. Your employer must provide transportation for medical attention on the day of injury.
  2. Tell your employer about your injury or illness and any medical treatment you received right away. Your employer is obligated to keep a detailed record of what happened. You should always report your workplace injury or illness even if your employer tells you not to or tells you that your injury is not covered by WSIB or if your employer asks that you use your sick credits. The WSIB will adjudicate your claim.
  3. Report your injury or illness if you need treatment from a doctor, you are unable to return to work, or if you cannot work your regular hours. A Form 6 - Worker's Report of Injury Form should be completed. Your employer should submit a F7 - Employer's Report of Injury Form within 3 days of learning of an injury of illness at work.
  4. Stay in communication with your employer. The WSIB will assist in this process by helping you recover and return to work.
